Yesterday I had the privilege of interviewing Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey on the human side of policing–i.e. the significant emotional costs and physical risks officers experience in trying to protect the public from harm. We’re grateful to the Commissioner for sharing his experiences and his insights on this subject. As we’ll see and hear in the film upon completion, his personal stories defy many of the public’s stereotypes of police officers. His compassion for the families of officers killed both on and off duty was especially moving. We’ll be including excerpts from this interview in the section of the CAREGIVERS film that addresses secondary trauma/compassion fatigue, experienced by first responders or public servants, such as police and firemen. We’ll also feature coping strategies. Stay tuned! Vic Compher
